Landi was one of South America’s major racers during the 30’s and early 50’s, and was very successful in the Gavea circuit. He also raced in Europe, indeed was one of the first drivers to race Ferraris, winning the Bari GP of 1948, in a Formula 2 example. He drove one and off for the Scuderia, in fact, was in the Ferrari Formula 1 team that raced in Formula Libre events in 1951 and 52. Landi was lent a 375 for the Italian Grand Prix of 1951, qualifying 16th and retiring in the race. In 1952 and 1953, he was part of the Escuderia Bandeirantes team, owned by Uruguayan Heitel Cantoni, racing in Holland (9th) and Italy (8th). He continued racing the Maseratis in 1953, retiring from both outings, in Switzerland and Italy. That same year he won the Bari Grand Prix a second time, this time for Sports Cars. His last Formula 1 outing took place in 1956, driving in partnership with Gerino Gerini in the Argentine Grand Prix. The duo did really well, finishing 4th, both drivers getting 1.5 points each. Thus Landi was the first Brazilian driver to score points in Formula 1, never again participating in Grand Prix. He continued to race until 1973, in Brazilian events, building many cars, managing the Simca works team  and encouraging the generation that eventually put Brazil in the motor racing map in the 70’s.
